Fabric sculpture of a clear bottle full of colorful fabrics and items that represent the parts of the artist that were bottled up when her children were young

When I became a parent, my child (and then children) came first. Everything that had made up my previous identity was put aside. It’s easy to lose yourself in the wonder of life as a mother and at first, I happily put my previous passions and activities aside. After three years however, I had lost part of myself and some of those identities, especially my artist self, was feeling bottled up.

This piece represents that feeling of bottling up oneself until you’re ready to burst. This vinyl bottle is filled with the fabric scraps that represent my art making self as well as small items and pictures of other pieces of my pre-mommy life that are looking to resurface.
