The Torah Sings
(approx. 36" x 24")
This piece, created for a Cantor, is based on a passage from Deuteronomy
31:19 which states "Therefore, write down this song and teach it
to the people of Israel; put it in their mouths, in order that this
song may be My witness against the people of Israel." From
this verse we learn that each Jew is to write his/her own sefer
Torah (Torah scroll).
This piece, therefore,
is a scroll in progress. The hand at the left is helping to complete
the song by adding its own notes. The fabrics and quilting patterns
in this piece all have a musical theme.
