Birchot HaShachar
(approx. 23" x 29")
This piece is part of a series on the weekday morning liturgy.
Birchot HaShachar is the first section of the morning service. During
this time of day, we are just waking up to the many sights, sounds,
and textures of the physical world and we give thanks to God for
each of them.
This crazy quilt is made
of fabrics of many different colors, weights, and textures to represent
the sensory overload we experience upon waking as well as our thankfulness
for the ability to experience all our senses in this physical world.
The quilting lines
meander through the piece and converge at the top to represent our
movement through this part of the morning service to a place where
we are more able to speak with God.
