Reflections of Eve: The Garden (approx 30" x 30") The Reflections of Eve series was created to emphasize the freedom that we have to return to the text and rethink the traditional interpretations of the stories of Adam and Eve. The Garden: This quilt is my interpretation of the moment when Eve sees "that the tree was desirable as a source of wisdom" (Genesis 3:6) and decided to reach for that wisdom. The tree of knowledge, therefore, is depicted as an open book and Eve is represented by the reaching hand. In viewing this quilt, I hope that one can rethink the traditionally evil and weak Eve and instead encounter a thoughtful Eve who knowingly reaches for the fruit of the tree of knowledge in order to increase her wisdom.
