The Reflections of Eve series was created to emphasize
the freedom that we have to return to the text and rethink the traditional
interpretations of the stories of Adam and Eve.
Creation: The left side of this quilt illustrates the
creation story found in Genesis 1:1-2:4a in which the world was created
in seven days. The right side tells the story of creation according
to Genesis 2:4b-2:25. The wedge between the two creation accounts
represents the gap that exists between the two stories and the midrashim
that try to, but cannot, reconcile the two. The orange border symbolizes
God who surrounds both stories of creation and the chaos of the midrashim.
God is not divided by the two stories, nor does anything separate
God from His creations. Through this quilt, I hope to deemphasize
the second creation story of woman from man's rib and the foundation
of women's inferiority that has been read into the text.
